Oia
In 1976 the settlement of Oia was classified as preserved and was the first in Greece to be included by the EOT in the program of development and utilization of traditional settlements. The village is world famous for its unique sunset. Oia is divided into two neighborhoods. One “looks” at the caldera with the restored caves hidden in the volcanic earth and is the area where the farmers and sailors of the island lived.
The other is the neighborhood where most of the neoclassical shipowners’ residences and captains’ houses are located. Even today Oia, despite its tourist development, maintains a nostalgic atmosphere.
It is worth visiting the Maritime Museum where objects from the maritime history of the island are exhibited, as well as an important collection of books. The nearby traditional villages of Tholos and Finikia are noteworthy. Going down the 214 steps from Oia, you will find yourself in the coves of Ammoudi and Armeni.
Walk around the famous Fira, see its picturesque streets and climb the cable car
Go to Fira, the capital of the island and take pictures of the beautiful buildings with impressive and interesting architecture. It is just above the Caldera. We will see the view of the cliff as well as the volcanic islands and get on the cable car to take you down to the small port of Gialos.
In the famous Imerovigli

Walk through the famous and picturesque Fira
Cosmopolitan Fira, the capital of the island, retains its interesting architecture and is one of the busiest places on the island. From the port you will go uphill 4-5 turns and you will find yourself in the neighborhoods of Fira.
The village, as it is in an advantageous position above the caldera, experienced a great tourist development. You will see the folk caves that were the homes of the poorest inhabitants of the island, but also the impressive public buildings and town houses of the 18th and 19th centuries. It is worth approaching Theotokopoulou square with its cafes and luxury shops. Look for different spots from where you can enjoy the view of the chaotic cliff and volcanic islands.
One of them is the Orthodox Cathedral of the Metropolis. Visit the Archaeological Museum of Thira, the cultural center “Belloneio Foundation” and the Venetian Mansion of Gyzi with its wonderful copper engravings. In upper Fira you will visit Fragomahalas with its well-preserved mansions. In Kato Fira, the church of Ag. Mina and the church of Christ. From here the cable car will bring you down comfortably to the small port of Gialos.
